New to Yoga? Here's Exactly What to Expect at Your First Class at LOVE

July 27, 20263 min read

Everyone who walks through our doors for the first time has the same look. A little excited. A little nervous. Wondering if they're going to be the only person in the room who doesn't know what they're doing.

You're not. And even if you were - it wouldn't matter. That's the whole point of a first class.

Here's exactly what to expect when you walk through the doors at LOVE Yoga & Barre in Whitefish for the very first time.

Before You Arrive

You don't need much. Comfortable clothes you can move in, a water bottle, and an open mind. That's the whole list.

Mats and props are available at the studio, so don't let gear be the reason you talk yourself out of coming. If you have your own mat and want to bring it, great. If not, we've got you covered.

We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early for your first class. It gives you a chance to introduce yourself to the teacher, let them know it's your first time, and get settled before things begin. Our teachers will always look out for you during class - offering modifications, checking in, making sure you feel supported rather than lost.

Walking In

The studio is located right in downtown Whitefish. When you walk in, someone will greet you at the front desk. Tell them it's your first class. We love hearing that.

You'll get a quick rundown of where everything is - cubbies for your shoes and bag, where to grab props, how to find a good spot in the room. First-timers are always welcome to set up wherever feels comfortable. There's no wrong place on the mat.

During Class

Here's the most important thing to know: you do not have to keep up. Yoga is not a performance. It's a practice - and a practice, by definition, is something you're always learning.

Your teacher will cue every movement and offer options for different levels throughout class. If something doesn't feel right in your body, you can always rest in Child's Pose. If you need water, take it. If a pose feels too intense, back off. You are always in charge of your own experience on the mat.

At LOVE, many of our classes are heated. If it's your first time in a heated room, take it easy. The heat is doing work even when you're standing still. Listen to your body, hydrate well beforehand, and know that it gets easier every time.

After Class

Most people feel one of two things after their first yoga class - either completely surprised by how hard it was, or completely surprised by how good they feel. Sometimes both at once.

Either way, you did it. And the second class is always easier than the first.

If you loved it and want to keep coming back, our New Student Intro Deal is the easiest way to make yoga a regular part of your life in Whitefish. One full month of unlimited classes for just $49 - giving you the chance to explore different class styles, find your favorite teachers, and build a practice that actually sticks.

You Belong Here

LOVE Yoga & Barre exists for every body and every level - from the person who has never unrolled a mat to the teacher who has been practicing for twenty years. We have built this studio to be a place where you don't have to have it figured out to walk through the door.

You just have to show up. We'll take care of the rest.
